Anyone can enjoy water skiing – it’s a sport that allows you to set your own pace. It’s also a flexible and inclusive sport, and a highly social one. This is why it can be hugely beneficial for people who are deaf or have hearing loss.
We recently contributed to a blog article for hearing aid brand Connect Hearing to highlight the benefits to the hard of hearing of taking part in sport. Many people with hearing difficulties experience social isolation. Sport can be part of the solution. Water skiing in particular is a great alternative sport that can be enjoyed by participants of all ability levels. We certainly welcome members of the deaf and hard communities to take part.
The benefits of water skiing
Water skiing will improve your physical fitness and confidence, but at a pace you choose. The boat can tow you slowly. Then, as you become more comfortable on your skis, you can pick up the pace and try crossing and jumping the wake. It also gives you the chance to mix with other water skiers and to meet people who enjoy the same things you do.
‘Don’t Let Hearing Loss Stop You From Being Active’
We have specialist instructors who can communicate with you using hand signals, or you can use a special helmet that allows you to hear instructions more clearly. We will always make provisions for skiers with hard loss and we’re really hoping you’ll come and give water skiing a try.
